MILLIE: Karla and I are great Gloria Maris fans. We eat there practically two or three times a month and miss the food when we fail to do so. Even when Dad was alive, we would frequent the place at least once a week. Next to Chef Jessie, it’s our specialoccasion restaurant when a family member is celebrating a birthday or when friends or relatives from abroad are in town and we take them out.

The Gloria Maris Shark’s Fin restaurant in Greenhills continues to attract crowds, composed mostly of families, especially on weekends and special holidays. In fact, requests for reservation have been coming and are expected to keep pouring in up to next year and many more years.

I was winning my battle with the bulge (mostly around my mid-section) until last Sunday when Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde texted our group an invitation to lunch at Gloria Maris Shark’s Fin Restaurant in Greenhills, San Juan City. The feast (yes, it was!) served to our group was so irresistible. I said, “Forget it!,” and, with my equally starving companions, I tasted every item of plateful after plateful laid out before us. It was a bit too late when I realized it — I had just lost my battle with the bulge there at Gloria Maris, sans regrets (nothing that regular exercise can’t correct)

There are restaurants that have a part of your life, where you’ve celebrated a special event, a milestone, be it yours or of someone dear to you. Gloria Maris is one such restaurant for me.
I recall having dined there, many times since it opened in 1995. Admittedly, over time, I’ve forgotten about it and the joyful experience that dining with them brings.
Thanks to my eating group of Xavier parents who live to eat (and to who I owe many food discoveries to), I’ve once again rekindled a new fondness for Gloria Maris Fine Dining where we recently had lunch
